New Interstate 80 Sign Signals Drivers to “Stop Here To Rob Us” at Peru Exit
PERU, IL – In what is a being described as a confusing move by the Illinois Department of Transportation, a new “Stop Here To Rob Us” sign has been placed on the Peru exit along Route 80.
Following an increase of robberies in recent months, a Transportation Department spokesman released a statement early Monday about the new sign.
“We’ve observed that most criminals prefer to rob Peru businesses, so we decided we would make sure that no criminals miss this popular armed robbery destination.” Dan Daniels, DOT Public Relations, told The Cob.
“If you are going to rob a business and then get away absolutely free, Peru is the place to do it.” He continued.
“Plus with a few more robberies Peru could hold the record for consecutive cell phone stores robbed. This would warrant a sign designating their record achievement also being placed near city limit signs.” Mr. Daniels concluded.
Peru officials took the signage in a positive light releasing a statement stating, “All criminals are welcome here.”
